Click on a marker on the displayed map to view a list of snowmobiling trails in that area.

The Trail Report posted here is for general information only and does not necessarily reflect the Trail Status at the time of your ride or the actual local trail conditions you may encounter. The information is gathered from club volunteers and is valid only at the time of their observation. Their observations may not meet your expectations and the conditions may vary from the time of posting. Conditions may vary with temperature, snow quality, type of terrain and usage. Please exercise caution at all times and be prepared for the unexpected. Remember that the trail is providing an off road experience that has inherent risks which demands constant rider preparedness, vigilance, caution, unimpaired reaction and smart choice.

Steamboat Springs

Open
1A - Dumont Lake to the Towers
This trail runs generally north/south and links the Dumont parking lot to the trails that meet at the Towers at the top of Buffalo Pass. This trail has plenty of meadows to play in, especially along the southern portion of the trail. When in meadows watch for springs and creeks that can keep relatively deep sinkholes open to the ground. Note the two “keep-off” drinking water reservoirs on the western side of the trail, Long Lake and Fish Creek Reservoir. At the top of Buffalo Pass you’ll find the non-motorized Mt. Zirkel Wilderness to the north.

Open
1A - Muddy Creek to Latigo
This trail runs north/south from the Muddy Creek parking lot down to Buffalo Park and Gore Pass. This trail is mainly in the trees and has one vast area about halfway to Latigo Lodge called Buffalo park. Plenty of sledding opportunities exist along this trail. Buffalo Park is a great spot to get off of the trail or have your packed lunch. Be cautious of highway traffic when crossing US 40.

Open
1D - Dry Lake to the Towers
This trail runs out of Dry Lake parking lot to the Towers at top of Buffalo Pass. Note that this parking lot is relatively small, and the parking lot and the dirt road (only plowed once per day) leading to the parking lot are not recommended for trailers. The first half of the trail runs through a Winter Back Country permit area, so be sure to stay on designated trails only. Permits are required for travel through the area and can be found at the trailhead in Dry Lake. Watch for additional snow cat traffic on the trail through the Winter Back Country area. Once through the backcountry area, there are plenty of opportunities for challenging sledding on either side of the trail. When off trail, be mindful of avalanche prone terrain and deep drainages that could be difficult to get out of. At the top of Buffalo Pass you’ll find the non-motorized Mt. Zirkel Wilderness to the north.

This trail runs out of the Grizzly Creek parking lot to the Towers at the top of Buffalo Pass. Plenty of sledding challenging opportunities exist along both sides of the trail. When sledding off trail, be mindful of avalanche prone terrain. At the top of Buffalo Pass you’ll find the non-motorized Mt. Zirkel Wilderness to the north.

Open

This trail runs between the Muddy Creek and Grizzly Creek parking lots along the eastern edge of the Forest. The trail itself stays comparatively low in elevation and may be more sheltered from the weather, but has plenty of challenging sledding to the west of the trail.
